BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHTING MBCC’S ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER MICHAEL HURT

MIAMI BEACH, FL – (February 21, 2020) - In honor of Black History Month, Miami Beach Convention Center’s (MBCC) Assistant General Manager Michael Hurt tells us how he celebrates his heritage.

“I celebrate my African American heritage daily and in several ways. First, by giving thanks to the individuals who paid the ultimate sacrifice(s) to ensure equality for all. Individuals such as Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshal, Shirley Chisholm, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Barack Obama,” said Mr. Hurt.

Prior to the MBCC, Mr. Hurt served in leadership positions throughout Miami, at the American Airlines Arena, and most recently, Marlins Park. His experience includes venue operations, large-scale event management, emergency response, guest services and budget management.

“It’s a priority of mine to work with and be a role model to young African Americans who struggle to find business leaders that look like them. Also, to ensure that my family is educated on their African American heritage so that they continue to recognize and appreciate the unbelievable work of our past ancestors,” continues Mr. Hurt.

Mr. Hurt is an influential asset to the team as he meticulously and diligently plans, directs and manages the day-to-day operations of the 1.4 million sq. ft. Convention Center.

“After reading the famous quote of African American educator and activist, Mary Mcleod Bethune, ‘My people will not be satisfied until we see some Black faces in high places.’ I always promised myself to be one of those faces and continue to challenge myself to become the best me that I can be,” adds Mr. Hurt.

At the MBCC, 44% of the Spectra Venue Management employees are Black/African American holding as the second largest demographic following the Hispanic/Latino ethnicity at 46%.
