MBCC hosts a successful Super Bowl LIV Fan Experience

 

MIAMI BEACH, FL – (February 6, 2020) The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC, a Spectra-managed venue) was the proud host of the Super Bowl Fan Experience from January 25 through February 1.

 General Manager Freddie Peterson expressed his pride for the MBCC teams who worked in tight coordination to execute this high-profile event. “With more than 75,500 attendees over the course of six days, Spectra, Centerplate, Smart City, First Class Valet, the City of Miami Beach, the GMCVB and the NFL’s staff worked in harmony to bring together an amazing experience for residents and visitors. It was a complex execution of activities, from security, operations, food service, technology and global press, and I’m proud the MBCC rose to the occasion and delivered a touchdown for the community.”

 Centerplate, the exclusive food and beverage provider for the MBCC fed over 215,000 fans, players, NFL executives and performers during Super Bowl LIV. At the Miami Beach Convention Center, Centerplate served up:

  • More than 12,000 beef and chicken sliders
  • 3,400 personal pan pizzas
  • 2,500 empanadas
  • Almost 44,000 Pepsi products (the official drink sponsor of the Super Bowl)
  • 14,000 Frito Lay chips
  • More than 19,000 beers

 Food Rescue US partnered with NFL Green and Centerplate to ensure surplus food from Super Bowl events was recovered and provided to community kitchens and food pantries in the Miami area. More than 1,000 lbs. of recovered food was provided to support food insecure individuals in our community. With the team’s commitment to local sourcing, Centerplate also partnered with Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that works to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges, to offer ocean-friendly seafood options. Also, in partnership with NFL Green, landfill waste from the Super Bowl Fan Experience transported by Waste Management and transformed into steam power.

 Smart City Networks, the exclusive internet service provider at the MBCC, leveraged the wireless network to seamlessly support up to 2,500 attendees simultaneously streaming, downloading and uploading their Super Bowl experience. Additional wireless networks were set up for NFL planners, NFL Sponsors, and Ticket Master to securely process credit card payments and monitor the event, along with media and social media coverage. Smart City team members installed custom networks, including deploying edge switches and extending fiber circuits, to provide for the NFL’s Security Cameras, Credentials Scanners, Gatekeepers, and Broadcast TV/Live Streaming from the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The MBCC was the home of the NFL’s Super Bowl Fan Experience, an interactive theme park for football fans. All four halls of the MBCC were transformed into almost 500,000 square feet of NFL history, games and activities, including exhibit attractions such as: the NFL players Locker Room with 65 TV screens of NFL footage, the Vince Lombardi Trophy, NFL Total Access with athlete autograph sessions, a Super Bowl Ring Display, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and NFL Shops. Large scale installations of interactive games like NFL Play 60 Field, Playmakers Square, NFL Drills, 40 Yard Dash, Field Goal Kicks, and Obstacle Course were available to fans to get the total NFL experience.

Miami Beach Convention Center was also the home of the Super Bowl Media Center, with a live broadcast Radio Row buzzing with press, celebrities and past and current NFL players. Banners featuring the ticket designs from past Super Bowls adorned the MBCC’s 60,000 square foot Grand Ballroom. The MBCC’s Sunset Vista Ballroom was also in play as the host location for the NFL’s 1st and Future Competition (in partnership with the University of Miami), a competition designed to spur innovation in player health safety and performance.
