Miami Beach, FL — Green Key Global, in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), adds yet another notable tourism industry facility to it roster with the addition of the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) for its leadership in sustainable meetings and events. MBCC has achieved an impressive 4 Green Keys rating through the Green Key Meetings program, an industry respected sustainability verification for hotels, meeting rooms and convention facilities.

This recognition celebrates MBCC’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational excellence in the meetings and events sector. The MBCC is a LEED Silver Certified venue, owned by the City of Miami Beach and proudly managed by Oak View Group, that reflects the city’s dedication to environmentally responsible design and operations. Building on this foundation and its 2024 Event Industry Council’s (EIC) Silver Certification for Sustainability and Social Impact, the MBCC continues to advance its leadership in sustainability by prioritizing comprehensive practices across energy efficiency, waste diversion, water conservation and responsible sourcing, MBCC now joins a growing network of facilities leading the way in sustainable hospitality.

“We view sustainability as a shared responsibility, one that enhances the guest experience, supports our local community and reduces our environmental impact,” said Freddie Peterson, General Manager of the Miami Beach Convention Center. “Sustainability is a foundational element of how we operate and an integral part of our culture. This distinction reflects the dedication of our entire team, including our sustainability champions, who take great pride in this achievement. It reflects our overall commitment to excellence in venue management, our partnership with the local hospitality industry, and the GMCVB. Green Key verification validates our efforts and gives planners added confidence when selecting our venue.”

This milestone reinforces GMCVB and Green Key Global’s shared vision of making Greater Miami a premier sustainable destination. With over 50 hotels and facilities already enrolled through this partnership within the Green Key Global’s Eco-Rating certification program, the MBCC joins a growing movement of properties embracing high-impact environmental and social responsibility practices.

“We want to keep the momentum and motivation going for even more facilities and hotel properties to go through the sustainability verification process as it helps drive additional business,” said GMCVB President and CEO David Whitaker. “Seeing a convention and meetings facility landmark like the MBCC step up and demonstrate leadership by attaining this exceptional rating is the best endorsement you can have.”

“We congratulate the MBCC team on this well-deserved achievement,” said Ray Sabharwal, director of marketing at Green Key Global. “Their commitment to sustainable stewardship sets a powerful example for venues and meeting spaces across North America.”
