Miami Beach Convention Center receives GBAC Star™ facility accreditation

(MIAMI, FL) – September 3, 2020 – The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) is proud to announce its recent achievement of the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ Facility Accreditation, the gold standard for  facilities and venues worldwide. Under the guidance of GBAC (a division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association), MBCC has implemented the most stringent protocols and staff training for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention.

"The health, safety, and security of the Miami Beach Convention Center and all who enter is our top priority,” said General Manager, Freddie Peterson. “The MBCC proudly joins the ranks of other nationally  and internationally recognized GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation venues. By deploying strict cleaning, disinfection and staff training protocols, we set the stage for a healthy return to live events and continuing our commitment to excellence in venue management. We are thrilled to have ISSA/GBAC’s third party independent accreditation as this further instills confidence amongst our teams, clients and guests while furthering positioning the MBCC for continued success."

“Miami Beach is a global leader in many aspects – including providing clean and healthy spaces to enjoy in our exceptional community,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Steven Meiner. “Our stunning Convention Center’s GBAC Accreditation exemplifies that and reflects the efforts our hospitality industry has taken to provide safe and incredible experiences for visitors.”

As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR™ helps organizations establish protocols and operating procedures, offering expert-led training and assessing venue readiness for biorisk situations. The program verifies that the MBCC implements best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics (including COVID-19).

“GBAC STAR™ accreditation empowers facility and venue owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments,” said GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger. “With GBAC STAR™ accreditation, the Miami Beach Convention Center receives third-party validation that the venue follows strict protocols for biorisk situations, thereby demonstrating its preparedness and commitment to operating safely.”

MBCC demonstrated compliance with the program’s 20 core elements to achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, ranging from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.

GBAC STAR™ is designed for any size facility—including schools, offices, hotels, airports, assisted care facilities, and other public venues such as stadiums, convention centers, arenas and theaters—to establish a comprehensive system of cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention.

Other top venues committed to GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation include: Hard Rock Stadium in Miami; Orange County Convention Center in Orlando; Hyatt Hotels & Resorts; Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas; McCormick Place in Chicago; Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati; the Las Vegas Convention Center; Staples Center in Los Angeles; San Diego Convention Center and The Leading Hotels of the World, (which represents more than 400 hotels in over 80 countries), among many others.

GBAC STAR™ also has garnered support from leading industry organizations such as: the International Association of Venue Managers; International Facility Management Association; Informa Markets; International Association of Exhibitions and Events; Trade Show Executive Media; Society of Independent Show Organizers; Freeman + Go LIVE Together (a coalition of leaders from the live events industry that represent more than 4,000 companies with U.S. operations and 112 other countries); the Infection Prevention Strategy (TIPS) and Unique Venues.
