February 18, 2019 – ConventionSouth Magazine editors recently recognized the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) with a “2019 Top New & Renovated Meeting Site Award” in their December 2018 awards issue. After hundreds of nominations and a rigorous editorial review, the MBCC is proud to be included in this elite list of top new or renovated meeting sites and destinations in the southern US.

The reimagined Miami Beach Convention Center recently completed a lavish $620-million-dollar renovation, modernizing the facility and positioning it as one of the most technologically advanced convention centers in North America. Highlights of the physical renovation include: almost 500,000 sq. ft. of flexible exhibition space, a new, elegant Grand Ballroom (60,000 sq. ft., the largest ballroom in South Florida), four junior ballrooms varying from 12 – 20,000 sq. ft. (one ballroom, the beautiful Sunset Vista, features a glass curtain and dramatic park views), up to 84 Meeting Rooms, 9 acres of public green space surrounding the Center, and 800 rooftop parking spaces. The expansion brings the MBCC up to 1.4 million sq. ft. of flexible event space, perfect for meetings, tradeshows, receptions, and more!

In addition to physical enhancements, the MBCC has unveiled a series of service enhancements to facilitate event production throughout the Convention Center. A multimillion-dollar, 10,000 sq. ft. full-size production kitchen (complete with a pastry shop) produces restaurant quality meals for 1 to 10,000 guests. Exclusively managed by Centerplate, food and beverage service is elevated to reflect the diverse culinary culture of Greater Miami and Beaches.

$7.1 million dollars’ worth of art (curated by the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places program) has been installed throughout the convention center, inviting attendees to reflect as they conduct business.

Finally, 1,610 miles of fiber optic cabling and 480 miles of copper wiring supports all IT communications and redundancy in data transfer, with free Wi-fi provided by Smart City in all common areas and meeting rooms.

“It’s a true honor and privilege to be included among top convention centers in the South,” said Freddie Peterson, General Manager for the Miami Beach Convention Center. “We’re excited to be open for business and attracting amazing events to this magnificent destination.”
