Lactation Nursing Pods: Supporting Parents at the Miami Beach Convention Center

nursing

The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) has taken a significant step towards inclusivity and support for nursing parents by introducing two new nursing pods. This addition demonstrates MBCC's commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all visitors, including team members, clients, and guests who are nursing parents.

Locations:

1. A stationary nursing pod located on the 2nd floor of the Main Lobby (near the vending machines area).

2. A mobile nursing pod that can be relocated throughout the venue as needed.

These pods are designed to provide comfortable and private spaces for nursing parents, offering a range of amenities to ensure a positive experience. Some of the key amenities include:

  • Comfortable seating with proper arm and back support

  • Lockable doors for privacynursing

  • Electrical outlets for breast pumps and device charging

  • Adjustable soft lighting

  • Built-in ventilation

  • Fold-down table and storage for personal items

  • Sanitizing station with a sink

  • Changing station

By proactively addressing the needs of nursing parents, the MBCC is positioning itself as a leader in accommodating nursing parents at events and conferences. This initiative also highlights MBCC's commitment to supporting local and women-owned businesses. We partnered with Nessel, a woman-owned company specializing in nursing pods, for the project. Additionally, we collaborated with Expo, a family-owned business, to create custom wraps for the pods.

The addition of these nursing pods is expected to enhance the overall experience for nursing parents attending events at MBCC. It allows them to participate fully in conferences and exhibitions without having to miss out on important sessions or networking opportunities due to the need to find suitable spaces for nursing or pumping.

This move is likely to be appreciated by event organizers and attendees alike, potentially attracting more diverse audiences to future events at the the MBCC.
